Privacy Policy
Effective October 17, 2026
Fan Equity ("we," "us") measures public attention to athletes, teams, entertainment, brands and other public subjects, and publishes rankings, research and The Rabbit Hole at fanequity.com. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information you give us
- Access requests and sign-ups. When you request access, sign up to keep reading a story, or subscribe to a newsletter, we collect what you enter, such as your email address and, if you provide them, your name, phone number, company, role and notes.
- Member accounts. If you are invited to become a member, we keep your email address and sign-in records so you can log in.
- Messages. If you email us, we keep the correspondence.
Information collected automatically
When you visit our site we record the page you viewed, the referring page, the campaign or source tag in the link, the time, and a random visitor identifier stored in your browser. We use this to count readership and improve the site. We do not use advertising cookies or sell advertising.
Public data we analyze
Our index is built from publicly available information about public subjects: aggregate counts and public content from websites, news sources, ticketing and review platforms, and social platforms. We analyze attention to teams, leagues, public figures, titles and brands. We do not build profiles of private individuals, and where public posts are analyzed we store totals and trends rather than personal profiles.
Threads
Fan Equity uses the Threads API provided by Meta. When a Threads account owner connects their account to Fan Equity, we receive an access token and the account's basic profile information (user ID and username). With the permissions granted, we use the Threads API to:
- look up public Threads profiles of teams, leagues, athletes and other public figures and record public totals such as follower counts;
- search public Threads posts by keyword to measure the volume of conversation about public subjects over time.
We store the resulting counts and trends. We do not store the text of other people's posts beyond what is needed to compute these totals, we do not use Threads data for advertising, and we do not sell or share Threads data with third parties. Access tokens are stored encrypted on our servers and are used only to make the requests described here.
You can disconnect Fan Equity at any time in Threads under Settings → Account → Website permissions. To have data associated with your connection deleted, remove Fan Equity there or email us; Meta's data deletion request is also honored automatically and you will receive a confirmation code and status page.
How we use information
- To operate the site, provide member access and send the emails you asked for
- To respond to inquiries and access requests
- To produce our index, rankings and research, which report aggregate attention, not information about private individuals
- To measure and improve our site, and to keep it secure
How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers that host our site and database and deliver our email, under contracts that limit their use of it, or when required by law. Our published research contains aggregate figures, not personal information.
Retention
We keep sign-up and member information while your account or subscription is active and for a reasonable period afterward, and we delete it on request. Page-view records are kept in aggregate.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from any email with the link in that email.
- Ask us to access, correct or delete your information by emailing hello@fanequity.com.
- Clear your browser storage to reset the visitor identifier.
Children
Fan Equity is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including access controls and encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure.
Changes
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with a new effective date.
